Charity Channel Relay 21-9-13 12hrs 32mins

Posted on by Karen Turner

This was a charity channel relay , raising monies for Cardio Club , Weymouth Breathe Easy and the Weymouth MS group. Our team was my work colleague Tony Flattery, a rookie to channel swimming and good friend and local Nurse Julia Aston who is an experienced open water swimmer and swimming coach.

Our tide was the 12th -17th September but alas the weather blow us out and so we couldn’t swim.  Back to work and liaising with the pilot Chris Osmond in Dover over the next few days we eventually got a chance to swim on the 21st September. A big spring tide of 7 metres but with Chris skill as a pilot and our determination and strength we completed the swim in 12hrs and 32 minutes!

Thank you to  Paul Mason , who was great supporter and a car driver. We left Weymouth at 6pm on the Friday 20th Sept , met Chris at 11pm , started the swim at 0035 on the 21st Sept and amazingly we were back in Weymouth at 9pm on the same day.

Thank you to all the people who sponsored us , and to Nigel Williams , Manager at Osprey leisure centre who kindly let us train in the pool and off the slipway at Portland.
